EDWOSB & WOSB CERTIFICATIONS

Woman-owned small business (WOSB) & Economically disadvantaged WOSB (EDWOSB)

As of late 2020, the SBA has stepped in and taken over the WOSB certification process again.  While the four third-party certifying agencies are still valid, the previous self-certification is no longer valid, and vendors must go through the SBA’s formal certification process.

The WOSB certification is industry-specific to industries that are typically underrepresented by female-dominant ownership. By getting your business certified, you eliminate a large majority of your competition, and can now be eligible for contracts. federal spending goals, and subcontracting goals that are specifically set aside for woman-owned businesses.

The federal government spent $817 MILLION with certified EDWOSB and WOSB firms in FY2020, though $32 BILLION was awarded to all woman-owned businesses.

WHO SHOULD GET ONE

  • Businesses that are looking for an additional competitive edge when pursuing federal bids or contracts.
  • Businesses looking to take an easier route of subcontracting.
  • Those that have been asked to obtain a certification by a prime contractor or government agency.
